About this event
Event Description
Paddington Markets opens every Saturday at Paddington Uniting Church in Paddington, offering a relaxed weekend browse through more than 150 stalls of handmade and Australian-made goods.
Running since 1973, the market began as the brainchild of the late Reverend Peter Holden, a young minister who had returned to Sydney after helping organise the Woodstock music festival. The church saw the market as a way to encourage the creativity flourishing in Paddington as artists moved into the area, and more than five decades on, it remains a mission initiative of Paddington Uniting Church.
The market has long been a launching pad for local talent, with fashion designers such as Zimmermann and Lisa Ho among those who got their start here. Today it continues to champion independent designers, makers and emerging creatives.
What to expect
• Fashion, accessories and handmade jewellery from local designers
• Art, homewares, soaps and candles
• Fresh produce at the growers market, which opens from 9am
• Gourmet treats and artisan coffee
• A morning yoga class held inside the church
It is a lovely spot to pick up a one-off gift you can’t find anywhere else, or simply settle in for a leisurely Saturday lunch. The market runs rain or shine, and visitors with access needs, including wheelchair users, are warmly welcomed.
